Selling 1988 Harley-Davidson Touring
Harley-Davidson Tour Glide Classic. Numbers matching Stock engine, Carb, transmission etc. FLTC Beautiful survivor!Tour Glide is the precursor to the Road Glideboth with a frame mounted fairing. The Tour glide was sold by Harley from 1980through 1996. It was reintroduced as the Road glide in 1998. NO RESERVE
This bike comes with the Original: Tour pack, stock mufflers, rear shocks, original seat, windshield and working radio pack which I removed and are all included with sale. Also includes the original keys, original Factory owner's manual and brochures, Factory Service Manual, Magazine Road test circa 1988. All wiring is intact. 1988 was the 85th Anniversary for Harley. I have an accessory 85th Emblem but this is not the "Anniversary Model" which were all two-tone. NADA value: "1988 FLTC Tour Glide Chrome" is $9575for Excellent and $6005 for Very Good.
A really nice example of the Marque. Dependable stock EVOLUTION engine with 5 speed trans. Garage kept and well maintained. No unusual noises. No smoke. Never wrecked. Starts, Runs and shifts smooth. Rubber mount engine, Belt rear drive, Chain primary. Everything works except for the fuel gauge which I have never attempted to repair. Great oil pressure and charging system. I have owned this bike for 10 years without any problems.

After purchasing the bike, I carefully removed the Tour-Pak with mount and the working Radio/cassette-Pak to lessen weight up high. I added the Mustang seat, later model Harley lay-down tag mount, National Cycle chopped V-Steam windshield, fishtail mufflers, bullet rear turn signal lenses, 1-inch lower rear shocks and removable crash bar Naugahyde wind/rain guards. The remainder of the bike remains bone stock and original. The V-Stream windshield is amazing at redirecting the wind. Low enough to look over but high enough to get behind. Thermostat controlled Harley Lockhart oil cooler.
The bad: The Left saddlebag lid is a nice Repro but does not have the pinstripe on it. I have the original lid which was damaged by the previous owner when it blew off when it was not attached securely. There is some mild chrome pitting on the Cam nose cone and Outer transmission cover and some various mild paint chips etc. Certainly not perfect but nothing major, just a little "patina" expected for a 33-year-old bike with 66,200 miles. Always garaged since I have owned it and looks like it was all its life. Ridden 6,200 miles since I bought it. Usually ridden clear cooler days.
I am a 73 y/o rider and have been riding Harleys since 1977. I have owned this bike for 10 years. I also have a 1984 Shovelhead which I ride the most and a 1998 Fat Boy to which I have just added a Harley sidecar. So, I've just decided It's time to thin the herd a little further and pass it to a new 'steward". I would like to see this go to someone who would really appreciate the old bike. Original miles of 66,200. Well over 100,000 trouble free miles is not unusual at all for Evo's. Mileage may increase a little because I still ride it some in clear weather.
The story I got from the E-bay seller I bought it from 10 years ago in South Florida told me the bike was originally owned for many years by a Harley Dealer in Cincinnati.

I can't confirm that story. It would help to explain the nice condition though. The oil tank dipstick is a Harley Accessory with "Richmond Indiana" on it which is 64 miles from Cincinnati. So maybe the story is accurate.
I was very selective when I started looking for an older Tour glide / Road glide. I wanted the Evolution motor and the best years in my opinion were 84-88 and 94-98. The 85-89 years had some problems with the motor cases cracking. Also, I did not want the big gaudyturn signals as on the 87 and earlier front fairing. I wanted the newer second generation 5 speed which is supposed to be better than the early 5 speed with the clutch arm lever. Lastly, I wanted a solid color, preferably BLACK bike. Most of the Tour Glides and even the early Road Glides were 2 or 3 color bikes which I think are ugly. This bike fit my criteria perfectly! (88 or 96-98) It took a while to find a nice one.
If you want a bike that will last a lifetime if taken care of and youwant to stand out at a Cruise night in a parking lot full of blacked out"Cookie cutter" Road Glides & Street Glides, this beautiful Vivid Black with lipstick red pinstriped bike with the Gangster white walls and Fish tail exhaust will do it! Believe me, I've experienced it! Dare to be a little different! OLD SCHOOLClassic all the way with personality.
At one time I thought about changing to black wall tires. A friend talked me out of it saying, "it will just look like every other Black Road Glide then". So, I've kept them and never regretted it. It will look great either way.
